The 2017 Coutts Million Pound Donors Report is now out, showing a rise in giving by the wealthiest in society. There’s been a rise in sizeable corporate donations too from just under £50m in 2006/7 to over £500m in 2016, much of this coming “from family businesses – where the people involved are both owners and shareholders”.
It’s interesting to see that more businesses are getting the message that philanthropy gives them a competitive advantage “by enhancing reputation and attracting the best employees, especially amongst millennials who may prefer to work for ‘good’ employers”. Just what we’ve been saying! And we’re delighted to see that this is now leading to mega donations from the businesses to add to all the cake sales and fun runs that generate employee donations.
