Grants tackle health inequalities in North Somerset

Before Christmas one of our largest funds, the North Somerset Community Partnership Fund (NSCP), awarded £127,500 to support health and wellbeing projects in North Somerset.

Thanks to the large endowment NSCP hold with Quartet, these grants are now helping charities support new parents with their mental health, families struggling to put meals on the table, people with dementia and many more in our communities.

NSCP grants awarded in November and December 2021

  • £7,000 to Bluebell Care Trust to provide Bluebell peer support buddies, Dads in Mind support workers & a new weekly online Antenatal wellbeing group to support expectant and new parents experiencing perinatal mental illness in North Somerset.
  • £20,000 pledged to Clevedon Skate Project to go towards match-funding the capital cost of designing and building a new Skatepark and Pump Track at Clevedon seafront.
  • £10,000 to FareShare Southwest to fight food insecurity in Weston-super-Mare; three new pantry schemes in areas of high deprivation and two regular van routes of food support to 16 charities and schools.         
  • £20,000 to Home-Start North Somerset to recruit another coordinator to offer a support service directly to families as soon as referrals are received and to support and train volunteers.   
  • £4,000 to Nailsea Tithe Barn Trust. Their café meets weekly with separate activities to support people with dementia and carers. It also provides training for members, outings, virtual meetings, telephone support and outreach visits.         
  • £3,500 to Our Way Our Say to offer children woodland activities. This includes woodland skills & opportunities to learn all about the secret life of the forest, going on adventure trails to uncover animal tracks.         
  • £10,000 to the Care Forum for a project to enhance mental health & wellbeing and promote opportunities for creativity for LGBT+ youth in North Somerset. To empower them to document their mental health experiences/journey through photography. 
  • £13,000 to Theatre Orchard to work with disabled adults and the refugee community. Helping give voice to those whose needs are often overlooked.
  • £8,575 to We Are Aware CIC to further expand their Mental Health Peer Support Project.
  • £8,000 to Clevedon YMCA towards a youth worker to support children aged 10 to 12 years as they transition from primary to secondary school.
  • £10,000 to Osprey Outdoors Community Interest Company to utilise an 11 allotment area as a community growing hub, with opportunities for teaching through workshops and courses, for the mental wellbeing and education of the local community.
  • £10,000 to the Strawberry Line Café Project CIC to continue employment of their job coach for employability projects, within both the café and the cycle hire; offering vocational placements and courses for adult with learning disabilities.
  • £3,500 to Whiteoak Way Schools Association for new sheds for the school and holiday club PE equipment.
