The past 18 months have been tumultuous for young people. Following a decade of austerity and the resulting squeeze on youth organisations and their provision, young people today are in dire need of engagement, support and inspiration.
Bristol’s youth organisations know it’s a crucial time to act. So they have pulled together to imagine a vibrant and responsive youth sector. This new strategy launched early September features the voices of local organisations, national bodies and vitally, young people themselves.
Seed funding from Quartet enabled early development of this plan, allowing key players to become involved in this collaborative undertaking. With nearly 1 in 5 people in Bristol aged under 16, this plan will have a huge impact on the future potential of our young people.
The strategy is the result of an alliance of 18 Bristol youth work organisations coming together, supported by a grant from Quartet Community Foundation. The £8,000 grant enabled Learning Partnership West to bring the group together and ensure that smaller youth groups had the capacity to contribute.
The 18 organisations include Learning Partnership West (LPW) and Aspiration Creation Elevation (ACE), our speakers at the event. LPW work across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, B&NES, North Somerset and Wiltshire with young people aged 6 – 25. ACE work with young people through music and media from their base at the Docklands Community Centre on Brigstocke Road, in Bristol’s St Pauls neighbourhood.

“Quartet’s work supporting Bristol’s youth sector to work collaboratively builds on work we’ve already done with Bristol’s play sector, where we supported them to work together.
“There’s been a sea-change over the pandemic. Now so many organisations are willing to do things differently for the benefit of the city, so as funders we need to be willing to respond differently to support this work.”
Behind the Scenes are informal events, providing an opportunity for Quartet’s 300+ fund holders to learn first-hand about the organisations doing fantastic work within our local communities.
Quartet offers a range of events throughout the year for our fund holders, including these Behind the Scenes events. Other events include our Philanthropy in Practice events in B&NES, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
