What is the Bristol Youth and Play Support Programme?

The Bristol Youth and Play Support Programme is for organisations in Bristol that work with local children and young people aged 8 to 19 years (up to 25 for young people with learning difficulties).

This grant programme will prioritise funding for activities, projects, or services that meet any of the priorities identified in one or more of the four Youth and Play Development Plans. More information on these plans can be found in the Guide for applicants.

Each Youth and Play Development Plan covers a geographic area of Bristol (North, South, East Central, and City Centre). These plans have been developed with organisations in the Youth and Play Sector, children and young people, and Bristol City Council.

Several applications were unsuccessful in the previous funding round as they didn’t directly address these priorities. You can see information of the successful applications from the previous round in our July 2024 awards list.

What you can apply for

You can apply for a grant towards a new or existing activity that is working with local children and young people aged 8 to 19 years (up to 25 for young people with learning difficulties).

A grant can be towards any reasonable costs for your group/organisation or project, including:

  • Core or running costs
  • Project and activity costs
  • Equipment

A grant cannot be used to reimburse costs already incurred, and you should plan to start spending the grant within six months of it being awarded.

Who can apply

Applicants must be based and working in the City of Bristol. You can apply for a grant if you are a:

  • Constituted voluntary or community organisation
  • Constituted group or club
  • Registered charity
  • Not-for-profit company, including Community Interest Companies where they are not limited by shares and most directors receive no payment from the company.

Please see our eligibility criteria page for further information.

We recognise that some activities are better delivered when two or more organisations work together. Therefore, we will also consider awarding grants up to £10,000 for partnerships of two or more organisations, provided both meet the eligibility criteria.

How to apply

Apply online using the link below. You can return to your online application form as many times as you like, though do save the form as you go along. Please read through the guidelines before applying. For more support see our Help & Guidance page.

Please note last round we received a large number of applications for this grants programme, with the total amount requested nearly four times greater than the amount available. We have limited funds available, so we expect to award approx. 15 grants this round.

Decision turnaround

We aim to notify applicants of decisions within 8 weeks of the closing date. Read more about decision turnaround.
