Last winter alone this appeal raised over £16,000 for local projects which support vulnerable people through the winter months

We’re launching our annual Surviving Winter appeal to help support vulnerable people.

We all know that winter can be a difficult time for many people, especially those who are older or vulnerable.

This year is set to be even more challenging. People who are already struggling to make ends meet are facing a perfect storm of rising energy and food costs, job insecurity and money woes. And it’s clear the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over.

We’re once again launching our Surviving Winter Appeal – the difference is that we are broadening it out to benefit younger people and families as well as the many thousands of local older people in need.

Please help people like Mr O

Mr O, 70 years old, was suffering with cancer and living on a very limited budget. He couldn’t afford to eat the healthy diet recommended by his doctor or heat every room in his house and was referred to the Centre for Sustainable Energy by the local food bank. They not only helped him increase his income but also save money by lowering his energy bills.

-We awarded a grant to the Centre for Sustainable Energy who supported Mr O last winter.

Help organisations supporting local families, vulnerable people and older people across Bristol, B&NES, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire who are struggling with:

With help from people like you we can really make a difference to the lives of local people in fuel poverty, as well as helping combat loneliness.

Where your money goes

Donations are helping people in many ways including providing:

  • support and activities for older isolated people including wellbeing packs
  • fuel poverty information guides, workshops and telephone “buddy” phone call support
  • information and advice to people, enabling them to escape fuel poverty through increased income, lower energy costs and being more energy efficient.

Groups that benefitted from the appeal last year include Chinese Community Wellbeing Society (formerly Bristol & Avon Chinese Women’s Group), Bristol Mind, Age UK Bristol, Age UK Bath & North East Somerset, Centre for Sustainable Energy, and West of England Rural Network.

Thank you for your support

Every contribution, however big or small, matters. Your efforts will help local older people, families and vulnerable people in need get through these cold, lonely winter months. We work with local organisations whose front-line staff can reach people in need.

Together, your generosity adds up to a lot of change for the better for local people experiencing fuel poverty, isolation and financial struggles.
