Ben Silvey, a qualified youth worker, was Director at YMCA Bristol from 2012. His leadership there helped it to innovate and thrive after a period of long decline.
He set a vision for developing services that were financially sustainable, which included new venture The Kitchen, a café based at The Station in Bristol city centre that acts as a social hub offering training, volunteering and work experience to young people who have experienced difficulties in life.
The refurbishment of the old Bridewell Police HQ created a new YMCA hostel for Bristol, helping to tackle the problem of homelessness amongst local young people. Ben took up a new position as Chief Operating Officer for Bristol Cathedral in May 2021.
