James was until recently Chairman of South West One and a Director of GWE Business West. A past Master of the Merchant Venturers, he has been High Sheriff of Avon and is a former Lord Lieutenant of Bristol (1996 – 2007). James has a broad range of charitable and community interests and is a former Trustee of Quartet.
