Funding in action: Queer Hiking Bristol

Group of Queer Hiking Bristol participants

Queer Hiking Bristol is a Bristol-based community group that aims to bring together queer people in nature and be a safe space for queer people in the countryside. As well as encouraging more queer people into hiking, they actively promote wellbeing and physical health in queer communities through exercise outdoors and campaign for queer and gender diverse inclusivity in the outdoors industry.

Founded in 2023 as a community interest company, Queer Hiking Bristol successfully applied for funding from our Express Programme in 2025 and were awarded a grant of £5,000.

The grant helped them continue their programme of creating safe community experiences in the great outdoors for LGBTQ+ communities in Bristol, helping to improve mental and physical health and wellbeing and reducing social isolation.

“Being able to be in a safe queer community that is supportive while sharing common interests (exploring together the beautiful nature) has been a valuable experience for me.”
