We’re delighted to welcome Richard Tredwin as our new chair of trustees. In this article, Richard talks about what makes the Quartet Foundation special and the importance of building stronger communities.
Why I’m proud to be the new Chair of Trustees
I’ve been involved with Quartet for over 20 years now and, with my family, we established the Tredwin & Pennington Family Fund with Quartet. Now, as I take on the role of chair of trustees, it feels like a natural next step in a relationship that has evolved over many years.
Quartet has an ambitious target to grow its endowment to £100 million to help the charity continue to respond to emerging needs across our region and I’m looking forward to working alongside the excellent board of trustees and leadership team to help shape Quartet’s future.
Vision for Quartet
I’m passionate about staying true, both to our mission and our amazing donors, by remaining financially agile and supporting the organisation in making the greatest possible difference across our communities and regions.
Having seen what Quartet has achieved so far, it’s a huge privilege to be involved with this charity as it expands its reach into areas of unmet need across the West of England.
Having lived in Bath for over 30 years and worked across the region, I have a strong connection with the West of England and I am particularly impressed by how Quartet brings together so many generous people with local organisations that are making a real difference.
I’m really excited to build on Quartet’s deep understanding of the communities it serves as we work to bolster existing partnerships and develop new collaborations to secure funding for the most deserving communities.
The Tredwin & Pennington Family Fund
Quartet’s approach has always resonated with me because it combines expert local knowledge with long-term philanthropy, helping to ensure that donations and grants have genuine, lasting impact where they are needed most.
Through our family fund we have supported a number of charitable organisations that focus on improving people’s lives. People are at the heart of everything Quartet does too – whether its supporting charities who assist families through difficult times, helping youngsters fulfil their potential, or strengthening community organisations – every grant tells a story.
Knowing that our family fund has played a small part in this is incredibly rewarding.
My hopes for the future
Our strategy is to grow our impact and increase funding each year, whilst staying true to Quartet’s values. There will always be new challenges facing our communities and I hope we can inspire even more people to become involved in local giving.
For me, community is all about people looking out for one another and giving others the opportunity to thrive. Strong communities do not happen by accident – they are built through kindness, collaboration and a willingness to invest and support in one another.
And that’s exactly what Quartet helps to make possible.
