Staff recruitment approach

Quartet aims to operate with a diverse team of staff which is reflective of the diversity of the areas and communities we serve as a charity.  As an equal opportunities employer, we are committed to open and fair recruitment  in order to attract diverse candidates from a broad spectrum of lived and learned experience and backgrounds. Quartet follows recruitment procedures to assist in achieving this aim and to ensure that no applicant is treated unfairly.

In our recruitment of staff, Quartet will ensure that:

  • We seek to recruit the best candidate for the job based on merit.
  • No applicant receives less favourable treatment because of a protected characteristic.
  • Each vacancy is based upon a clear and concise job description and person specification.
  • The anonymised assessment of applications is completed based on the information provided in relation to the person specification, so that ability and potential performance are the only criteria used in selection, reducing unconscious bias.
  • We treat all candidates fairly, equitably and efficiently, with respect and courtesy, aiming to ensure that the candidate’s experience is positive, irrespective of the outcome.
  • We will notify all candidates of the outcome of their application.
  • All applications are monitored for equal opportunities purposes. This information does not play a part in short-listing or recruitment decisions whatsoever.
  • If you have any access needs we will work with you to see they are met at interview stage and in the event of the offer of employment. This includes Access to Work and other reasonable adjustments.
  • Open recruitment and selection of staff is conducted in a professional, timely and responsive manner and in compliance with current employment legislation.
  • The salary or salary range is always published which meets or exceeds the requirements of the Real Living Wage. Quartet is a Living Wage Employer and reports its remuneration policy in our annual audited financial statements which are available from the Reports section of our website.
  • Our recruitment and selection process is cost-effective and offers value for money for the charity.
  • All documentation relating to applicants will be treated confidentially in accordance with Quartet’s Privacy Policy, which is shared transparently as part of the application process.
  • All appointments will be subject to references and other pre-appointment checks.  The safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults remains paramount in our recruitment and appointment processes.

Trustee and committee member recruitment approach

Quartet’s Board of Trustees have overall control of Quartet, and are responsible for making sure it meets its charitable objects. The Trustees appoint a team of staff led by the Chief Executive Officer, hold annual general meetings, arrange for regular board meetings, and delegate specific powers to Quartet’s committees. Trustees and Committee members come from all walks of life, and through fair, open and transparent recruitment, Quartet make sure the whole organisation represents the diverse communities of the West of England.

In our recruitment of Trustees and Committee Members, Quartet will ensure that:

  • Recruitment of members to the Board of Trustees, committees, panels, working groups and any other such groups is done based on the skills required, irrespective of protected characteristics.
  • Quartet is passionate about ensuring the organisation is representative of the diverse communities across the region, and therefore Quartet monitors the backgrounds and lived experiences of its entire workforce in order to identify and target advertising of roles to recruit those who are under-represented on our board, committees and wider workforce.
  • Diversity is taken into consideration when recruiting members to the Board of Trustees, committees, and advisory panels.
  • Recruitment of Trustees is an open recruitment process which is advertised on Quartet’s website as well as other relevant recruitment platforms.
  • A Trustee and Committee Member Recruitment Pack is available for candidates to read, which will contain information relating to the organisation, the role and requirements of a trustee and committee member, the specific skills and experience being sought by the trustees, and the application process.
  • If you have any access needs we will work with you to see they are met at interview stage and in the event of the offer of a trustee or committee member role.
  • Quartet offers an informal conversation about the role prior to a formal application with a relevant staff member (CEO or another member of the Leadership Team) or trustee.
  • All expressions of interest will be responded to with the outcome of the application.
  • All appointments will be subject to pre-appointment checks and a declaration of interest procedure.
