Did you know that over 13,000 families in Bristol experience moderate to severe food insecurity?
Community food projects in Bristol play a crucial role in improving access to good quality, affordable food, but can lack access to enough funding to support their work. This is where the Bristol Local Food Fund will make a difference with its new crowdfunding campaign.
Bristol Local Food Fund (BLFF) is a new initiative aiming to create a central pot of funding for the incredible community food projects that are tackling food insecurity in the city, particularly those working in areas experiencing the greatest disadvantages. Bristol City Funds, of which Quartet is a key partner, has been supporting the project’s development, alongside Burges Salmon, Feeding Bristol, Bristol Food Network, and Bristol City Council.
The BLFF team consulted with community food projects working in areas of high food insecurity, and they have the backing of over 40 food businesses that have pledged ‘rewards’ to the crowdfunding campaign. Harts Bakery, Better Food, Wiper and True, Essential Trading and Hobbs House Bakery are just some of the local businesses pledging rewards. Burges Salmon has generously kickstarted the campaign with a £10,000 donation fundraised by staff.
The raised funds will be distributed via a Citizens Panel, made up of diverse Bristolians with real-life experience of food insecurity, who will decide how the funding should be spent.
Bristol is a vibrant city, home to a number of inspiring community food projects. But now more than ever, they need funding and support to sustain and scale up the amazing work that they do.
I support the Bristol Local Food Fund because it is imperative that we join TOGETHER as a city to tackle food inequality and with the Bristol Food Fund, the city will be encouraged to join forces and help provide support to the number of incredible community projects that are tackling hunger.

The volunteer team behind BLFF see the crowdfunder campaign as the first step to a long-term, whole-city approach to tackling food insecurity. They hope to fulfil a vision of a city where everyone can access good quality, affordable food.
